Belfast Free Library will host the Midcoast Augmented Reality (AR) Youth Design Hub beginning this month. Young designers ages 13 and up are invited to join Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA) educator Daniel MacPhee to learn, design, build, play, and share AR fun and games. The program will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, May 13 and 20, and then on the first and third Monday of each month thereafter in the library’s third-floor MakerSpace. STEMports is a National Science Foundation–funded collaborative research project between the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance and the Field Day Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. STEMports engages youth in missions (ports) to enhance science, technology, engineering, and math learning, and to help them discover emerging STEM careers in their communities. Participants will test games, learn AR tools, and develop their own AR projects. Mobile devices will be available for those who need them.
