Rockland Public Library will present a screening of the 1983 film “Never Cry Wolf,” based on the book by Farley Mowat, on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. The screening, sponsored by Friends of Rockland Public Library, will take place in the Community Room and is free and open to all. The 105-minute film, directed by Carroll Ballard, stars Charles Martin Smith, Brian Dennehy, and Zachary Ittimangnaq. It tells the story of a life-changing experience for a young biologist studying wolves in Canada’s inhospitable North. Tyler (Smith) is sent by the Canadian government to “prove” that the wolves are depleting the caribou herds, but what he finds is a natural world in perfect harmony. Dumped unprepared in the wilds by a hard-drinking bush pilot (Dennehy), Tyler learns survival skills from an aged Eskimo (Ittimangnaq) who saves his life and learns rules of coexistence from a wolf.
