Waldo County Emergency Management Agency will test the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system on Friday, March 22. The test will cover all of Waldo County. Activation of the WEA system will send a short text message, which will read “This is a test of the Waldo County Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is required.”

Cell towers in the area will broadcast the WEA test for approximately 30 minutes beginning at 3 p.m. During that time, cell phones that are switched on and within range of an active cell tower should receive the test message.

The Waldo County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will conduct the countywide WEA test in order to assess the performance and capabilities of the alerting system. Should there be a real world emergency, the EMA office will utilize the system to alert the public of appropriate actions to take and where to find additional information.

Following the time of the test, the public may provide feedback on the results at www.waldocountyme.gov/emergencypreparedness-information.
